He uses speculative design to visualise scenarios that help people and organizations make better decisions for the future, while being in the present. Every human on the planet is a crew member of Spaceship Earth. However, we need to re-invent the driving manual. At least if we want our species to survive, and create a future that is satisfying for the wellbeing of all humans, but also for planet Earth as a whole. But where to start? First, we have to acknowledge that our vision of nature is outdated and needs an upgrade. We need to adopt a new paradigm where nature and technology are not opposites, but merge into a Next Nature. We can then start to envision smart solutions to feed the planet, such as harvesting energy from our own bodies and growing meat in the lab. Where will we drive our spaceship? At least not back, but forward to nature! In this innovative session Hendrik-Jan takes you on a journey in which you will gain new insights on nature and technology and how they are changing rapidly.

Ieder mens op de planeet is een bemanningslid van Ruimteschip Aarde. We zullen alleen de handleiding van ons ruimteschip moeten herschrijven. Tenminste, als we als soort willen overleven en een pad uitstippelen dat zowel bevredigend is voor de mens, als voor de planeet in haar geheel. Waar te beginnen? Ten eerste moeten we erkennen dat ons beeld van natuur achterhaald is en toe aan een opfrisbeurt. We moeten een nieuw paradigma omarmen waarin technologie en natuur niet langer tegenpolen zijn, maar samensmelten in een Next Nature. Pas dan kunnen we beginnen met nadenken over slimme oplossingen zoals energie winnen uit ons eigen lichaam of een biefstukje groeien uit stamcellen in een laboratorium. Waar sturen we het ruimteschip naartoe? Niet terug, maar vooruit naar de natuur! In deze sessie neemt Hendrik-Jan je mee op een reis door de wereld waarin je nieuwe inzichten opdoet over het samensmelten van natuur, technologie en prikkelt je om hier op een nieuwe manier naar te kijken
